Service

1. All gear with legible serial number will have that number recorded on the service record. If there is not a legible serial number, a Georgian Firegear Service barcoded serial number will be affixed to ensure an accurate maintenance record as well as facilitate future tracking.

2. If the gear is less than three years old and showing signs of heavy wear (diesel spill, charred areas, etc.) we do a hydrostatic test of the areas affected. This is a test through the thermal liner and moisture barrier. If leaks are de-tected, an open liner test must be performed and necessary repairs will be completed using approved materials in accordance with NFPA 1851 and the manufactures specifications. Major repairs over $100 each piece will only be carried out with your direct authorization.

3. Each set of gear we receive for cleaning and/or repair over three years old is subject to receive and open liner testing of the moisture barrier in ten high wear areas for coats and six high wear areas for pants. It is then required to be tested every year after for the life of the gear.

4. The gear is then rated in the following manner: Very Good (New or Like New Condition), Good (Shows signs of being used, may have minor repairs), Fair (Used gear, has some repairs), Marginal (Well used, may need major re-pairs soon) and Age (Gear that exceeds NFPA 1851 Age Guidelines) and RRS (Recommend Removal from Service). Our goal with this rating system is to make administration aware of the condition of the gear in service and plan cap-ital expenditures in an informed and cost-effective manner.

5. Gear will then be reassembled while undergoing an NFPA 1851-Advanced Inspection.

6. Turn around time is usually 24-48 hours depending on repairs required.

7. A written service record will be provided detailing the cleaning and repairs preformed for each set of gear, with a copy kept on file in our office. This protocol ensures that gear will perform as designed, increasing firefighter safety and decreasing departmental liability.
